What your tortoise can look forward to at our boarding facilities

We offer 5-star treatment for your shelled friend(s) and would be delighted to care for them for you.

They will be spoilt with a delicious diet of fresh weeds and flowers (and grasses depending on the breed of tortoise you have).  If you prefer to supply your own food, we can offer that instead.

They will be bathed regularly and offered outdoor time in our individual escape-proof enclosures when temperatures and weather permits.

We take biosecurity very seriously at HappyTortoises and all enclosures, dishes and other items in your tortoise’s holiday enclosure is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before your tortoise comes to stay with us. 

We spot-clean enclosures regularly, and change substrate during your tortoise’s stay, as required.

Fresh, clean water is always available as well as regular misting to keep humidity at the optimal levels.

We offer UVB and heat in their enclosures, along with plenty of places for them to hide to feel safe.

We will do regular health checks and will notify you immediately if we have any concerns during their stay. 

We like to feel we are giving them a luxury 5-star holiday and we will ensure they have a relaxing and safe stay with us.

Fees for Tortoise Boarding

Our fees are based on number of tortoises boarding with us and how many tortoises you will be boarding per enclosure.  For example if you have one leopard tortoise and one Greek tortoise, you will need to book two separate enclosures to keep the tortoise breeds separate. 

You are paying for booking out the complete enclosure and no other tortoise will be sharing that accommodation during its stay with us. 

Please include the collection and drop-off days in your booking request as we book out the enclosure for the whole day so your enclosure is ready for your tortoise as soon as it arrives and can relax in its enclosure until collection time.  For example if you are dropping off on Friday evening and collecting Monday morning, this will be 4 days.

We charge £8.00 per day for 1 tortoise in 1 enclosure.  We offer discounts for multiple tortoises boarding with us at the same time and this is automatically calculated when you add to basket. 

Where are the drop-off/collection locations?

Drop-off and Collection in West Sussex.  We will send out details once your booking is confirmed.

Drop-off/collection times

Weekdays between 8-9am or 6-8pm

Weekends 2pm-8pm

Unfortunately we are unable to offer drop-off or collections on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Health issues / Medical bills

If your tortoise has any ongoing health issues, please make us aware of this at the time of your booking so we can give them the extra care required.  For any specialised treatments (eg nebulisation) please contact us first to discuss before making your booking.

If your tortoise requires any medical attention during its stay with us, we will contact you on the emergency number provided.  If urgent medical attention is required, we reserve the right to contact our vet immediately, so your tortoise’s health isn’t put at risk.  All medical bills will need to be paid before collection.

Late drop-off / collections

If you are unable to drop-off or collect your tortoise on the agreed date/time, please let us know asap on the contact number provided.  Additional charges will need to be paid before collection.

If you don’t collect your tortoise within 2 days of the agreed collection date, then we will charge £50 rehoming fee. We will then make arrangements to rehome your tortoise and any monies resulting from the sale of your tortoise(s) will be passed onto HappyTortoises.
