The HappyTortoises “FAST GROWING” seed kit is perfect for starting a food garden for your tortoise. Growing fresh, organic food for your shelled companion is not only rewarding but also ensures they enjoy a delicious and healthy diet. Watching our tortoises eagerly nibble on their nutritious treats brings us so much joy, and now you can experience the same by trying our starter kit today!

The kit includes everything you need to get started: a propagator for germinating and nurturing seedlings, the ideal amount of soil, and a specially blended mix of fast-growing seeds. It even comes with calcium powder to mix into the soil, promoting healthier plants for your tortoise. Simply fill the seed cells with the soil mixture, sow the seeds following the directions, and cover with the propagator lid to maintain the ideal humidity level. The adjustable vent on the lid lets you control the environment for optimal growth. As the seedlings sprout, you can watch their progress until they’re ready to be cut for feeding, transplanted into your tortoise’s enclosure, or even offered in the tray for your tortoise to discover and enjoy.

This starter kit is ideal for beginners, children, and anyone looking for a convenient way to grow tortoise food quickly without needing additional supplies. Designed for rapid growth, it’s the perfect choice for those who want fresh, homegrown food in no time.

The starter kit consists of:

  • mini propagator with clear lid and humidity vent (dimensions are 18.5cm (L) x 14cm (W) x 11cm (H) including lid)

  • seed cells for planting seeds (optional use)

  • small bag of organic soil (to fill the seed cells - if you prefer not to use the seed cells, then additional soil may be required)

  • mini bag of calcium powder to mix in with the soil to provide calcium rich plants

  • deluxe quick growing seed mix (white clover, red clover, broadleaf plantain, ribwort plantain, dandelion)

  • plastic plant label to mark your seed tray (useful if you have multiple seed trays with different seed mixes)

Additional information

Your tortoise food will be ready in as little as 7 days.

Each seed packet comes with simple and easy-to-follow growing instructions.

Tips for feeding the freshly grown food

You can either

  • use scissors to cut some of the tortoise mix and place in their food bowls as normal

  • or you can place the complete seed tray into their enclosure (dig into the substrate so it’s easier for your tortoise to access) then sit back and watch as they race over to tuck into the fruits of your labour!

  • or you can plant out the contents of the seedling tray in their enclosure

Note: please make sure that you ID any plants, weeds or flowers before feeding to your tortoise as seeds can be carried by birds, wind or already be in your soil at the time of sowing the tortoise seeds.

Other seed selections

We sell a huge range of seed selections and GYO kits for you to choose from, such as our GYO deluxe flower kits, GYO deluxe grasses kit, GYO tortoise-breed kits, to specific weeds, grasses or flower seeds that your tortoise will love. All are organic and sourced within the UK
