In the wild, Horsfield tortoises do not eat grass as they cannot digest it properly which is why we at Happytortoises created the Deluxe Horsfield Tortoise Seed mix without the grasses that some other breeds regularly consume. You can now home grow a perfectly balanced feed of tortoise-safe weeds and flowers which we know will provide a good flavourful dietary mix to keep your Horsfield tortoise happy and healthy.

We love watching our tortoises rush over to nibble on this delicious selection of healthy foods, so why not try our deluxe selection today and give your shelled friend a real treat!

Your tortoise food will be ready in as little as 7 days (some flower seeds included in the mix can take up to 21 days).

Each seed packet comes with simple and easy-to-follow growing instructions.

This deluxe seed selection includes:

  • Broadleaf plantain

  • Campanula

  • Chicory

  • Dandelion

  • Evening primrose

  • Field Pansy

  • Forget-me-not

  • Hawkbit

  • Hibiscus

  • Hollyhock

  • Knapweed

  • Lambs lettuce

  • Livingstone daisy

  • Milk thistle

  • Musk mallow

  • Nipplewort

  • Pot marigold

  • Red clover

  • Ribwort plantain

  • Sainfoin

  • Sea holly

  • Viola

  • White clover

Note: please make sure that you ID any plants, weeds or flowers before feeding to your tortoise as seeds can be carried by birds, wind or already be in your soil at the time of sowing the tortoise seeds.
Additional weights are available on request.

Tips for feeding the freshly grown food

You can either

  • use scissors to cut some of the tortoise mix and place in their food bowls as normal

  • or you can place the complete seed tray into their enclosure (dig into the substrate so it’s easier for your tortoise to access) then sit back and watch as they race over to tuck into the fruits of your labour!

  • or you can plant out the contents of the seedling tray in their enclosure

Starter kits and other seed selections

We sell a huge range of seed selections and GYO kits for you to choose from, such as our GYO deluxe flower kits, GYO deluxe weed kits, GYO deluxe grasses kit, GYO tortoise-breed kits, to specific weeds or flower seeds that your tortoise will love. All are organic and sourced within the UK
